Automatic inspection of glass thickness, edge and flatness
06.03.2009
A new, fully automatic measuring system from Micro-Epsilon is enabling the inspection of flat glass for flaking, edge quality, cracks, thickness and flatness. Dimensional accuracy is a key factor for industrial glass, which is used for demanding technical tasks. The system operates using two different measuring principles. A laser line scanner circumnavigates the glass pane during the measurement process and checks the edges and dimensional accuracy. In addition, several confocal sensors are positioned on a measuring beam, which measure the thickness and flatness of the pane in several axes during the traversing process. The glass panes are transported on a conveyor system into the measuring station, where they are placed on a solid stone block in order to avoid vibrations. The system can be modified to suit different customer applications. The system is adapted to individual requirements, ensuring high quality glass is produced.
