Geometry inspection during smartphone display assembly

During smartphone display assembly, the smallest details determine product quality: surface shape, edges, steps, thickness and local deformations must be reliably inspected to ensure that the display glass fits precisely into the housing. The new confocal chromatic confocalLINE CLI8500 line sensor enables high-precision geometry measurement directly in the production process.

Non-contact measurement on transparent and reflective glass
Thanks to its confocal chromatic measuring principle, the confocalLINE CLI8500 is particularly suitable for transparent and reflective materials. The surface profile of display glass can be measured without contact and with high precision, for example to ensure that the glass fits exactly into the smartphone housing. Shape deviations and local deformations can thus be detected early, before they affect assembly quality.

High level of detail and measuring speed
With 2,624 points per profile and a Z-axis resolution of 0.2 µm, the sensor captures even the smallest steps and edge geometries in great detail. A measuring rate of up to 10 kHz with a reduced measuring field also enables comprehensive inline quality control even at high production speeds. Deviations can therefore be evaluated directly during ongoing production. This reduces rework and scrap and increases process reliability in display assembly. Non-contact inline inspection is independent of surface characteristics and ensures consistently high quality throughout series production.
